WANT ADS are sold by the word. They are sometimes called "line ads" and are not classified. There are two types of WANT ADS . . . PERSONAL or COMMERCIAL.
PERSONAL WANT ADS must be paid in advance by cash, check, Visa, or MasterCard. The $6.50 minimum includes up to 15 words. Additional words are $0.33 each. COMMERCIAL WANT ADS must be paid in advance unless credit has already been established. The $8.50 minimum includes up to 20 words. Additional words are $ .35 each. DISPLAY ADS
DISPLAY ADS are sold by the column inch. They are normally larger ads with a choice of borders, have various sizes of type, and may have a picture or other type of illustration. Widths are from one column to six columns wide and up to 15" deep. Column widths are:

To determine the number of column inches in an ad, multiply the number of columns wide (up to 6 columns) by the number of inches deep (up to 15"). A full page ad is 6 columns (10 3/8" wide) by 15" deep, which is 90 column inches.
Display ads which are 2 column inches through 44.5 column inches cost $ 9.00 per column inch. Ads 45 column inches or larger cost $8.80 per column inch.
A business card size ad is 2 columns by 2 inches (4 total column inches). This ad is 3 3/8" wide by 2" deep. Cost is $9.00 (local rate) per column inch which is 4 column inches x $9.00.....$36.00. Another example is a 3 column (5 1/8" wide) by 5" ad illustrated below.
Display ads must be prepaid unless credit has already been established. There is a 5% prepayment discount if no separate bill and tear sheets are required.

AUCTIONS
AUCTIONS like display ads are sold by the column inch. They normally are 2 columns wide and from 3" to 15" deep. Usually the word "AUCTION" is at the top of the ad in larger, bold type. Then in smaller type the location is followed by the date and time in larger, bold type. Next is the list of the items for sale in smaller type. The bottom of the ad normally contains the name of the auctioneer, the terms, and the name of the selling party.
Auctions cost $9.70 per column inch. An auction which is 2 columns (3 3/8" wide) by 5" deep is 10 column inches x $9.70 for a cost of $97.00. Auctions published in the Shopper will also be placed on the Shopper's World Wide Web Page Auction Site. Auctions must be typed and mailed, faxed, or placed in person. Auctions must be prepaid unless credit has already been established. Last minute deadline is Noon Monday.
